Girls Take 6th, Boys Place 10th at Class 1A State Track & Field Meet
The SJCS girls finished sixth (out of 26 teams) and the boys placed 10th (out of 31 teams) at the Class 1A state track and field championships Thursday at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.
All 14 St. Joe's athletes who competed at state reached the podium at least once during a highly successful meet for the Knights.
Leading the way for the girls was 8th-grader Odette Brown, who was state runner-up in the 800- and the 1,600-meter runs and was on the Knights' 4x800 relay team that also finished second, along with senior Caroline Powers, junior Daniela Fernandez and sophomore Bea Hamilton.
Hamilton and Fernandez took fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 800 and teamed with Powers and sophomore Francie Thompson to place sixth in the 4x400.
Also, senior Harper Greer finished third in the high jump.
For the SJCS boys, sophomore Liam Novak was state runner-up in the 3,200, senior Graham Houck was fourth in the 800 and sophomore Burke Moorman was seventh in the 800 and eighth in the 3,200.
Senior Nick Franchina, juniors Lucas Salgado and Matt Patterson and sophomore Eliot Power took fifth in the 4x100, and Patterson, Salgado, Houck and Moorman finished seventh in the 4x400.
