Eric Nash Named Varsity Head Football Coach at St. Joseph's

Eric Nash has been named the Varsity Head Football Coach at St. Joseph’s Catholic School.

Coach Nash has served as the school's Athletic Director since June 2018, as well as the Varsity football team's offensive line coach since the 2018 season.

"This is a very exciting day for my family and me," Coach Nash said. "We love being at St. Joseph’s and are huge proponents of Catholic education and what it has done for our family. It is truly an honor to serve as the Athletic Director and now to be the head coach of the only Catholic football team in the Upstate. I look forward to leading our program into the new challenges ahead."

A native of Sharpsburg, Ga., and a 2002 graduate of Wofford College, Coach Nash was a three-year starter, three-time All-Southern Conference honoree and four-year letterman for the Terriers under Mike Ayers. Coach Nash received honorable-mention All-America honors and was an Academic All-District selection in each of his final three seasons.

Coach Nash served as offensive line coach at Wofford for 15 years under Ayers, the winningest coach in the school's history. Coach Nash has mentored four players who have been recipients of the prestigious Jacobs Blocking Award as the top offensive lineman in the Southern Conference: three while he was at Wofford and Furman's Jake Johanning, a 2019 SJCS graduate who won the award in 2023.

Coach Nash replaces Chris Goodman, who resigned after three seasons to become head coach at Travelers Rest High School. Coach Goodman led St. Joe's to a 30-9 record, to the school's first region championship in football in 2021, to the first 11-win season and Upper State final in 2022 and to another 11-win season and Upper State final in 2023.

"St. Joseph’s has been blessed with two exceptional head football coaches in a row," SJCS Head of School Keith Kiser said. "We thank Coach Chris Goodman for building on the success of his predecessor and friend, Jon Wheeler. The constant throughout both of these tenures, helping to lay the foundation for all the success we have had, has been Coach Eric Nash so I am thrilled that Coach Nash has accepted my offer to become the Knights' next head football coach.

"With a love and knowledge of the game that is second to none, a long track record of success that extends back to his days as coach under Mike Ayers and a conviction that football can help boys become men of faith and character, Coach Nash is the right person to continue the success of our program as we enter play in the 3A classification.”

Mr. Kiser said that while Coach Nash will continue in his role as Athletic Director, he will have the support of Assistant ADs added to oversee the girls and boys programs, respectively.
