Eligibility & Goals
Goals of the SJCS Athletic Program are to:
- Teach the values of fair play and good competition
- Encourage team work as an important part of a student’s growth toward maturity
- Promote school spirit and develop a sense of pride in the school
- Develop proper care and respect for one’s body, knowing that conditioning the body also helps develop the mind
- Nurture respect for other athletes, fans, and authority on the athletic field as a means to learning respect for others in day-to-day living
Athletic Participation Guidelines
The school is a member of the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) and the following SCHSL rules and guidelines must be observed for any athlete who plans to try out for and/or participate on SJCS sports teams.
The following forms are required for athletes to participate on any sports teams: Athletic SCHSL Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form (must be dated after April 1, 2022) (Print this Form and have the Physician completing the physical fill it out and sign it) and Concussion Consent Form. All required athletic forms, including athlete’s birth certificate, must be submitted through the following website Student Central - BigTeams prior to student participation on any sports team – this includes open season practice, conditioning sessions, and regular season. Forms dated April 1, 2022 or after will be good for the entire 2022-2023 school year. Parents should make a copy of these forms for their records before submitting them to Planet High School. New forms will be required at the end of the 2022-2023 school year in order to participate in 2023 summer practices. A copy of your child’s birth certificate must also be uploaded in order for students to be eligible to tryout and/or participate on any sports team over the course of the school year. Birth certificates are not required in order to participate in summer practices.
Prisma Health System will continue to provide SJCS athletes with the services of an athletic trainer. If you would like your child to be treated by our trainer in case of injury, you must also complete and turn in the Athletic Training Services Consent & Authorization Form.
Any student that begins 6th grade at SJCS will be eligible to participate in only middle school athletics. Also, any student that begins 9th grade at SJCS that resides in Greenville County will be eligible to participate in athletics. Any 7th through 12th grade student that transfers to SJCS after the start of the school year, or any new students entering 8th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade will be subject to SCHSL transfer rules that may affect athletic eligibility. Questions about eligibility should be directed to the SJCS Athletic Director.
