Middle School Math Camp (for rising 6th through 8th graders)
*Newly admitted rising 6th and 7th grade students who are required to take this camp will have the opportunity to test out of it on Thursday, May 13 from 3:30-4:30 PM at SJCS. More information to follow.
Date: July 26 – August 6
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Fundamental math skills will be reviewed to prepare students for our middle school math program. In addition, related work will be given out for the remaining summer weeks.

Middle School Reading Bootcamp (for rising 6th through 8th graders)
Date: July 12 – July 16
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Instructor: SJCS Tutor Mrs. Emily Gaskin-Gagne
Cost: $175.00
This camp will cover essential skills to assist middle school students in being successful in their literature classes in the upcoming school year. Lessons include fluency work, general fiction and historical fiction text structures, and digging deeper into texts with inferences and predictions. Students will take part in an escape room and mystery-solving, in addition to other hands-on and engaging experiences to strengthen their reading knowledge and interest.

Middle School Language Arts Camp (for rising 6th and 7th graders)
Date: July 19 – July 23
Time: 8:00 – 10:00 AM
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Kenneth Covington
Cost: $150.00
This camp will review the fundamentals of grammar and punctuation, including capitalization, the comma, the apostrophe, pronoun use and agreement, the adjective, the adverb, and word order. At the end of the camp, students should be better able to identify and explain the elements of proper writing.

Lost Tools of Writing Introductory Camp (for new/returning 8th and 9th graders)
Date: July 19 – July 23
Time: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Jay Tierney

The Lost Tools of Writing methodology has been adopted by SJCS in order to give students a systematic approach to writing persuasive essays. This program is introduced in sixth grade and continued extensively in seventh grade. By the time students reach eighth grade, they are expected to know how to generate ideas, structure a clearly organized and highly persuasive essay, and write with style and creativity. This camp will review the terminology and outlines that rising 8th and 9th grade students should be familiar with as well as serve as a refresher to anyone who would like to brush up on his/her writing skills.

High School Study Skills Camp (for rising 9th and 10th graders)
Date: July 19 – July 23
Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Kenneth Covington
Cost: $150.00
This camp will provide instruction in the organizational skills, time management, and self-discipline necessary for academic success. Instruction includes techniques for efficient and effective reading, note-taking, studying, test preparation, and more.
