Physical Education Course Offerings

This course will introduce students to taping and bracing; bandaging cuts and abrasions; using universal precautions; assisting with treatments and rehab; equipment safety; and assisting with the hydration level of athletes. The student will be required to attend all home events for the designated sport and put in a minimum of 6 hours a week for the duration of the sports season. This class time will occur after school hours during sports practices. Students must participate for one full season of an athletic sport.

Grade 10/11/12 · 1 Semester · .5 Credit

This one-semester class is an introduction to all forms of modern dance. It explores the movement of the body in relationship to space, form, and rhythm. The class will consist of a warm-up, stretching, exercises to develop coordination of movements, and choreography to a variety of routines. Students will be expected to dress in comfortable, yoga-type clothing for the class. No performance will be required. The class will be limited to 18. 

*This course can count as a Fine Arts credit instead of PE

This one-semester, beginning dance class teaches many of the social dances of our culture and others. It covers basic ballroom dancing, like swing, the waltz, and the tango. The students will also participate in contra dancing, square dancing, and other folk dances. Many newer line dances will also be taught, like country, disco, and pop. The class will be limited to 18. (Pass/Fail)

This one-semester course is available to all high school students. The course will provide familiarization with the weight room, including safety, exercise terminology, and technique. The students will be strength tested to determine a baseline as they begin their strength program. The program culminates in a strength test assessing growth.

This one-semester class focuses on understanding the physiological responses and adaptations to exercise by examining basic principles of physical fitness and exploring the human body systems, including the cardiovascular, muscular, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems. Students are introduced to health issues such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and nutrition.
