Lily Del Collo scored five points in the final 50 seconds to lift the SJCS 6th Grade girls basketball team to a thrilling 23-22 victory over host Bob Jones on Tuesday.
Del Collo hit a 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to pull the Knights within one point and then scored on a layup with 20 seconds left to give them the lead.
Del Collo and Emma Stewart finished with seven points each for St. Joe’s, which rallied from a 13-2 first-quarter deficit. Stella Nash scored five points, and Cason McCall had four points.
The Knights improved to 4-1 with their fourth straight victory.
6th Grade Boys
Josh Lyons and Sami Farhat each scored eight points and the SJCS 6th Grade boys remained unbeaten with a 32-19 win over Bob Jones on Tuesday.
Brennan Kelly scored five points and Sam Covington had four points for the Knights, now 5-0. Barrett Barnhill, Ray Wynn and Ethan Callahan had two points apiece and Hayes Frank had one point.
The SJCS Varsity Boys will play at Crescent Thursday night, with the winner gaining the at-large berth in the Class 2A playoffs.
Crescent defeated Columbia on Tuesday night. St. Joe’s had a bye.
The winner of Thursday’s game will play at Christ Church in a first-round game Monday night.
The SJCS Varsity girls ended their season with a 57-26 loss against visiting Berea on Monday night.
Tiffany Helmer led the Knights with 13 points, and Emily Meade added six points. Jamison White, Adelia Stefanik and Ava Elder each had two points and Elaina Mulholland had one point.
Today, the SJCS girls lacrosse teams have scrimmages at J.L. Mann, the JV at 5:00 PM and the Varsity at 6:00.
On Thursday, the Varsity girls soccer team has a scrimmage at home against T.L. Hanna at 6:00 PM.
