CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TAKE 2ND IN REGION; GIRLS TENNIS ADVANCES

The SJCS girls and boys cross country teams finished as runners-up in the Region 2-2A meet Tuesday at Landrum High School.

In the girls meet, Greer Middle College had 22 points, and the Knights had 43.

SJCS senior Caroline Linen was the individual region champion, finishing first with a time of 19:40. Senior Brigid Alvis (sixth in 20:38) and eighth-grader Lauren Kelly (seventh in 20:46) also made the all-region team.

GMC took first in the boys meet with 25 points, and St. Joe’s had 48.

Knights senior Tristan McTigue was the region runner-up in 17:03, and senior Dylan McTigue (fifth in 17:10) joined him on the all-region team.

Both SJCS teams will compete in the CiCi’s Sandhills Invitational in Columbia on Saturday.

Girls Tennis

The SJCS girls tennis team swept past visiting Newberry 6-0 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on Tuesday.

The Knights, who won the Region 2 title, will play on the road against Region 1 champion Christ Church in the second round on Thursday at 4:30 PM.
