The SJCS varsity volleyball team defeated visiting Greer Middle College in straight sets in a Region 2 match Thursday night, 25-10, 25-11, 25-18.

The Knights were led by sophomore outside hitter Emily Normand, who had 15 kills and no errors on 21 swings, hitting .714, as well as five aces and nine digs.

Senior captain and rightside hitter Abbey Elliott, who was honored on Senior Night, added eight kills, hitting .600, and had a team-high 10 digs and one service ace.

Junior setter Kimmie Thompson had 32 assists, a team-high 10 aces, and seven kills, hitting .667. Junior captain and libero Maggie Patterson had nine digs and paced the team with 21 serve receives, passing a team high 2.38.


On Wednesday night, the Knights played a tri-match at T.L. Hanna and lost both matches. They lost 25-16, 25-19 against SCISA opponent Cardinal Newman and then 25-20, 25-17 against Hanna.

In the first match, St. Joe’s was led by Normand (10 kills) and Thompson (18 assists). In the second match, Normand had 12 kills, and Thompson had 19 assists.
