FAQ
What is South Carolina International Thespian Society?
South Carolina International Thespian Society,
is the state chapter for schools in South Carolina who have an active Thespian
troupe, an affiliate of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA).
For schools who have not yet formed a troupe or have allowed their
troupe to go inactive, information can be found at the home office website
www.edta.org
or by contacting the state chapter at info@scthespians.com
about how to do so.
WHAT MAKES THIS FESTIVAL DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?
Two
of the main goals of South Carolina Thespians are the empowerment of student leaders and the
recognition of student work. Using
the exceptional model at the international level, the state board makes
decisions that create a truly unique time for our students to grow, network,
and thrive in their love of theatre.
WHO CAN ATTEND? Thespian
and Non-Thespian Schools
All South Carolina high school
students in grades 9-12, their theatre teachers, and chaperones are welcome at
the festival. Because the festival is an educational event for high school
students and their teachers, participation in all events is limited to persons
13 years of age and older. Though it is our hopes that all high school theatre
programs will eventually have school charters, we are presently able to extend
our invitation to all schools, including Non-Thespian Schools. Non-Thespian students are allowed to join in all activities
except senior scholarship auditions. However,
it might be noted that advancement to international level in one-act and
individual event categories carries some specific criteria.
In addition, to be fair to our active Thespian schools that pay annual
dues, non-member/inactive schools must pay slightly higher registration fees
for the state festival.
