The SJCS College Guidance Office reported that St. Joseph's students recently posted the highest pass rate in the history of the school on Advanced Placement (AP) exams taken in May 2010, scoring over an 85% pass rate after completing college-level courses at St. Joseph's.
Of the 163 AP exams taken in May covering twelve different subject areas, SJCS students scored a "3" or better on 139 of the tests. A score of "4" was earned on 59 of the exams, and a score of "5" was earned on 56 exams. All St. Joseph's students enrolled in an AP class are required to take the AP exam and must score between "3" and "5" on a five-point scale to earn college credit. Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement, or both based on successful performance on these exams. The local, state, and national pass rates for 2010 have not yet been announced. Pass rates released in 2009 are as follows: 57% (Greenville County), 57% (State), and 59% (National).
