Rising Sophomores Attend National Forum

Posted: July 19, 2010

Rising sophomores Audrey Ward and Clarissa Sutter attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED) at Emory University in Atlanta, GA June 20-29. This ten-day program introduced outstanding high school students to the world of medicine and familiarized them with professionals from some of the nation’s top medical centers and institutions of learning. With close cooperation from many technologically-advanced hospitals, research facilities and medical schools, the forum challenged students to learn about a broad range of topics, including educational requirements, career options, clinical practice, and complex ethical and legal issues facing the medical profession today. Students discussed global epidemics, cures for life-threatening diseases, life as a resident, medical specialties, and primary care with current physicians and patients. Each program culminated in a simulation that challenged students to consider a specific issue in public health and presented pertinent recommendations for achieving public awareness and concern.
