Middle School Math Camp (for rising 6th through 8th grade students)
Date: June 19-30 with a Wrap-Up Session on Monday, August 14
Time: 9:00-11:00 AM

Cost: $250.00
Fundamental math skills will be reviewed to prepare students for our middle school math program. In addition, related work will be given out for the remaining summer weeks.

Middle School Reading Strategies Camp (for rising 6th through 8th grade students)
Date: July 24-28
Time: 9:00 AM-12 Noon
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Phyllis Stanton and SJCS Aquinas Director Carolyn Johnsen
Cost: $175.00
Reading is the basis for all learning, and this camp will introduce proven, research-based strategies to improve reading comprehension in all subject areas. Fluency drills are a key part of our approach, and students will develop specific strategies for how to make reading both more productive and more enjoyable.

Middle School Language Arts Camp (for rising 6th and 7th grade students)
Date: July 31-August 4
Time: 8:00 – 9:50 AM
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Kenneth Covington
Cost: $140.00
This camp will review the fundamentals of grammar and punctuation, including capitalization, the comma, the apostrophe, pronoun use and agreement, the adjective, the adverb, and word order. At the end of the camp, students should be better able to identify and explain the elements of proper writing.

Middle School Study Skills Camp (for rising 6th through 8th grade students)
Date: August 7-11
Time: 9:00-11:00 AM
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Elizabeth Duncan
Cost: $140.00
This camp will focus on organization and executive functioning skills, use of the SJCS daily planner, note-taking, critical reading, and time management.

Lost Tools of Writing Introductory Camp (for new 8th graders and rising freshmen)
Date: August 7-11
Time: 9:00-11:00 AM

The Lost Tools of Writing methodology has been adopted by SJCS in order to give students a systematic approach to writing persuasive essays. This program is introduced in sixth grade and continued extensively in seventh grade. By the time students reach eighth grade, they are expected to know how to generate ideas, structure a clearly organized and highly persuasive essay, and write with style and creativity. This camp will review the terminology and outlines that rising 8th and 9th grade students should be familiar with as well as serve as a helpful refresher to anyone who would like to brush up on his/her writing skills.

High School Study Skills Camp (for rising 9th and 10th grade students)
Date: July 31-August 4
Time: 10:00 AM–12 Noon
Instructor: SJCS English Teacher Kenneth Covington
Cost: $140.00
This camp will provide instruction in the organizational skills, time management, and self-discipline necessary for academic success. Instruction will include techniques for efficient and effective reading, note-taking, studying, test preparation, and more.
