Middle School Math Camp (for rising 6th through 8th graders)
Date: August 3 – 14

Fundamental math skills will be reviewed to prepare students for our middle school math program.  In addition, related work will be given out for the remaining summer weeks.

Middle School Reading Bootcamp (for rising 6th through 8th graders)

Reading is the basis for all learning, and this camp will introduce proven, research-based strategies to improve reading comprehension in all subject areas. Through guided lessons and hands-on practice, students will develop specific approaches for making reading both more productive and more enjoyable.

Middle School Language Arts Camp (for rising 6th and 7th graders)
Date: July 27 – July 31
Time: 8:00 – 10:00 AM

Cost: $150.00
This camp will review the fundamentals of grammar and punctuation, including capitalization, the comma, the apostrophe, pronoun use and agreement, the adjective, the adverb, and word order. At the end of the camp, students should be better able to identify and explain the elements of proper writing.

Lost Tools of Writing Introductory Camp (for new/returning 8th and 9th graders)

Time: 1:00 – 3:00 PM

The Lost Tools of Writing methodology has been adopted by SJCS in order to give students a systematic approach to writing persuasive essays. This program is introduced in sixth grade and continued extensively in seventh grade. By the time students reach eighth grade, they are expected to know how to generate ideas, structure a clearly organized and highly persuasive essay, and write with style and creativity. This camp will review the terminology and outlines that rising 8th and 9th grade students should be familiar with as well as serve as a helpful refresher to anyone who would like to brush up on his/her writing skills.

High School Study Skills Camp (for rising 9th and 10th graders)
Date: July 20 – July 24
Time: 8:00 – 10:00AM

This camp will provide instruction in the organizational skills, time management, and self-discipline necessary for academic success. Instruction includes techniques for efficient and effective reading, note-taking, studying, test preparation, and more.

“Fractured Fairy Tales” Theatre Camp (for Rising 3rd-8th graders)

Date: July 6-10
Location: Virtual on Zoom platform
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

During this week-long camp, we will prepare a short play to be performed (or recorded) via a virtual platform. The first day begins with auditions, casting, and making a rehearsal plan for the week. On each day following, the students will work together step-by-step to prepare for the final event, pulling and creating costumes, props, and staging areas in their own homes! Students will need to have access to a computer with video and audio connections and the ability to connect to the Zoom meeting application. A “test class” will be created the Sunday afternoon before camp begins in order to be sure everyone can sign in smoothly Monday morning!)

Through their work, each individual student will gain more confidence and performance experience as they interact in play with a new group of performers exploring this dimension of theatre
work. Students will need to have access to a computer with video and audio connections and the ability to connect to the Zoom meeting application. A “test class” will be created the Sunday afternoon before camp begins in order to be sure everyone can sign in smoothly Monday afternoon!)

Bricks 4 Kidz Mash-Up camp combines all the most popular themes into one week! Every day kids will explore a different theme from Superhero, Star Wars, Disney®, Minecraft, and more! Kids will get to create 3D models, motorized technic builds, and LEGO® art mosaics all week long! For kids that love multiple themes this is the perfect camp experience.

Rising 6th – 8th Grade

Woodworking

St. Joseph taught Jesus the skills of carpentry. If this form of art and creation interests you, sign up for this hands-on class that will explore the basic skills of woodworking and carpentry. Students will walk away from the class having completed a woodworking creation!

COLLEGE COUNSELING CAMPS

College Application Workshop
Date: August 5th – 6th
Time: August 5th (1:00 – 3:00 PM), August 6th (10 AM-Noon)
Instructors: Mrs. Butler and Ms. Najmabadi
Cost: FREE
This workshop is open to SJCS rising seniors. Students will have the opportunity to work on applications (Common App and others) and have a college counselor on hand to answer questions both days. Please bring your laptop or electronic device that has internet capability as we will be accessing and completing the actual college application forms during the workshop.

College Essay Workshop CANCELLED
Date: June 22 – 25 (Monday to Thursday)
Time: 1:00 – 4:00 PM
Instructors: Various college admission representatives along with Mrs. Butler and Ms. Najmabadi
Cost: $200 for SJCS students and $250 for all other students
This workshop is open to rising seniors (SJCS and other local schools). College admissions representatives from Furman, Wofford, and PC will present and work with small groups of students on all phases of the college application essay from brainstorming ideas through finalization.
