College Acceptances
St. Joseph's Catholic School graduated its first class in
May 1997. Since that time, there have been twelve graduating classes totaling
410 alumni. One hundred percent of all St. Joseph's graduates have been
accepted into colleges and universities across the country, with many students
receiving excellent scholarship packages.
The school celebrated its twelfth Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 31,
2008. The Class of 2008, consisting of 50 members, was awarded college scholarship
and grant money in excess of $3 million dollars. Thirty-nine members of the
class received scholarship money at an average of over $79,000 per
student. This figure included, but was
not limited to, 24 South Carolina Life Scholarships, 8 Palmetto Fellows
Scholarships, and 7 full tuition scholarships.
In addition, three students were named as National Merit Finalists,
three as National Commended Students, and one as a National Achievement
Finalist. The Class of 2008 was also
distinguished by the addition of 14 new colleges and universities to the
ever-growing list of those to which the previous 360 graduates were accepted,
including Princeton University, Roosevelt University, and Rutgers University,
among others.
Other notables regarding the
Class of 2008 include: Three seniors
accepted to the University of Notre Dame, the most from any single SJCS class;
two seniors were awarded Furman University Hollingsworth Scholarships out of
only twenty awarded statewide; and the Class is distinguished by having the
first Presidential Scholar in the school’s history.
