libraryThe Mary Lou Foody Memorial Library and Media Center supports St. Joseph’s students in their pursuit of knowledge by providing a continually expanding collection of more than 12,000 items. Holdings include books and research materials relevant to our curriculum, a growing youth literature section, numerous weekly and monthly periodicals, daily subscriptions to local and national newspapers, on-line subscriptions to select academic sites such as Discus, Noodle Tools, and JSTOR, and a wide assortment of videos, DVDs and CDs. Additionally, the center is equipped with Dell laptops which students can use for research and other academic purposes. More than 30 iPads and 30 Chromebooks are kept in mobile carts for check out to classrooms. The SJCS grandparent advocacy group, The St. Anne’s Society, assists with the ongoing fundraising efforts to increase our holdings.

Library/Media Center Mission Statement 
The Library/Media Center strives to support the overall school mission statement by:

  • Providing both print and electronic resources suitable for classroom and research purposes
  • Offering a warm, inviting and accessible space for students and teachers to read, study and research
  • Continuously analyzing and updating the collection
  • Anticipating future needs, especially as they relate to changing technologies

Books may be checked out for a two-week period and may be renewed as needed. Reference books are not able to checked out. All materials checked out become the responsibility of the patron and lost or damaged books may necessitate a fine or replacement fee. If a book is returned late charges are assessed at a rate of $.05 per day.

Digital Books

Students can check out both eBooks and audiobooks through a partnership with MISBO and OverDrive. All students have been issued and eBook ID and password to access the site. Visit and search for St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Items that are checked out for the traditional two-week period are automatically returned to the library’s collection without any fines.

SJCS Card Catalog and Online Database Services

Destiny Library manager is our online card catalog. The Discus, Noodle Tools and JSTOR database are accessible year round. Students will need the usernames and passwords unique for our school. They can acquired from the library or by emailing Mr. McClendon.

SJCS Library/Media Center Selection Policy

Materials will be selected to support the overall school mission statement with an eye toward:

  • Providing a well-rounded selection of literary materials suitable for a Catholic school culture
  • Ensuring that a liberal arts curriculum is in place to foster the academic goals of the school
  • Furnishing research materials (both print and online) that will aid students in preparing for higher education goals
SJCS Library/Media Center Donation Policy
We welcome donations from groups and individuals but will make the final determination as to whether a donation fits the selection criteria outlined above and/or if the item donated is physically useful for circulation.

7:40 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday

7:40 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. Wednesday

The library schedule sometimes varies due to special events and is not open during the summer.
