The SJCS middle school baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday to rally for a 6-2 victory over the visiting Upstate Eagles.
With the Knights trailing 2-1 entering their half of the sixth, Miller Babcock led off with a walk. Brayden Renfrow doubled, and Sam Utecht was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
J.P. Rambo delivered a two-run single up the middle to put St. Joe’s on top, 3-2. Joe Patterson was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. John Eberstein hit into a fielder’s choice to knock in Utecht.
After Liam Okuley was hit by a pitch to once again load the bases, Henry Eilers singled to right to drive in two more runs, making it 6-2.
The Knights scored their other run in the first, when Renfrow tripled and came home on a groundout by Patterson.
Patterson, who started for St. Joe’s, and Okuley, who relieved in the fourth, limited the Eagles to single runs in the first and fifth.
Track and Field
SJCS senior Ava Dobson set a meet record in the 3,200 meters with her time of 10:32 in the Chick-fil-A Games at Eastside on Saturday.
Senior Brigid Stanton finished third in the javelin (89 feet, 1 inch), fifth in the discus (104-0) and 10th in the shot put (30-7).
In the boys meet, senior Rashad Luckey placed ninth in the shot put (41-6), and sophomore Harrison Scott took ninth in the high jump (5-6).
The SJCS girls lacrosse team lost 16-1 against visiting Mauldin. Summer LaPress scored the lone goal for St. Joe’s. Mauldin won the boys game 17-2.
