BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS SJCS GIRLS OVER BLACKSBURG

Essence Thompson scored all 13 of her points in the second half, and the SJCS varsity girls basketball team went on to defeat visiting Blacksburg 59-44 in a Region 1-2A game Monday night.

The Knights, who trailed 26-24 at halftime, improved to 10-2 in the region and maintained their grip on second place with two games to play.

Mady Duwe scored 16 points and Brigid Stanton 13 points for St. Joe’s, which outscored Blacksburg 35-18 in the second half.

Also for the Knights, Emily Meade had eight points, Brittany Morris six points and Jamison White three points.

Varsity Boys

The Knights fell behind early and couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole, falling to Blacksburg, 53-37.

Daniel Watson scored nine points and Gannon Stockton seven points for St. Joe’s, which trailed 12-5 after one quarter and 25-13 at halftime.

For the Knights, Ben Saunders and Josh Burns each had five points, Ryan Gallagher had four, Kyle Lonergan three and Joseph Poole and Jalen Gibson two points apiece.

**Tonight, SJCS will host Greer Middle College, with the girls game tipping off at 6:30 PM and the boys at 8:00. It will be Senior Night, and senior basketball players and cheerleaders will be recognized in between games.

At halftime of the boys game, members of the volleyball and boys swim teams will receive their state championship rings.
