GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY WINS REGION; VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES

Senior Ava Dobson won the individual championship and led the SJCS girls cross country team to the Region 1-2A title Wednesday at Hillcrest High School.

Dobson finished in 17:26. For the Knights, junior Caroline Linen finished third in 19:19, and seventh-grader Lauren Kelly finished ninth in 21:51, and both also made the all-region team.

In the boys meet, St. Joe’s senior Brendan McTigue won the individual championship in 16:52 and led the Knights to a runner-up finish. Juniors Dylan McTigue (17:22) and Tristan McTigue (17:36) came in third and sixth, respectively, and made the all-region team.

Volleyball

The SJCS volleyball team advanced to the Class 2A Upper State final with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19) victory over host Gray Collegiate Academy in Columbia on Wednesday night.

The Knights were led by senior Sydney Nobarak, who had 35 kills (hitting .517), and freshman Emily Normand, who had 15 kills.

Sophomore Kimmie Thompson had 47 assists and 14 digs, and senior libero Elizabeth Tamura had a team-high 29 digs and four assists. The team had 64 digs and six aces in all.

The Knights (27-12) will host North Central in the Upper State final at 6 p.m. Monday.

Girls Tennis

The SJCS girls tennis team will play Governor’s School in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs (Upper State semifinals) at Coker College at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
