SPORTS ROUNDUP: SJCS VOLLEYBALL TEAM RALLIES PAST GMC
The SJCS volleyball team rallied from two sets down to defeat host Greer Middle College 3-2 (21-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-8) on Thursday night in a Region 1-2A match at Fairview Baptist Church.
The Knights, in first place in the region with an 11-1 record, improved to 22-12 overall.
For the Knights, senior Sydney Nobarak had 28 kills and 15 digs; freshman Emily Normand had 12 kills; sophomore Kimmie Thompson had 40 assists, 18 digs and two aces; sophomore Maggie Patterson had 18 digs and three aces; and senior libero Elizabeth Tamura had 32 digs, two aces and three assists.
The team had nine aces and 92 digs.
The SJCS JV football team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to visiting Southside Christian 27-12 Thursday night.
It was the first defeat for the Knights’ football program this season after 11 victories.
St. Joe’s scored in the first half on a 38-yard run by Daniel Watson and trailed 14-6 after two quarters.
Watson returned the second-half kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown to pull the Knights to within 14-12. But the Sabres scored the next two touchdowns in the game to pull away.
Watson added a third touchdown to his outstanding performance for the Knights, racing 90 yards for a score. Walker Wood passed to Chris Johnson for the two-point conversion.
The Knights have one game remaining, next Thursday at 6:30 PM at Landrum.
