SPORTS ROUNDUP: AVA DOBSON WINS FIGHT LIKE WYATT RACE

The SJCS cross country teams competed for the first time this season in the Fight Like Wyatt event at Hillcrest High School on Saturday, August 31.

The Knights’ Ava Dobson won the girls varsity race in a time of 18 minutes flat. Her time is No. 1 in the state this season according to scrunners.com and No. 20 in the nation according to the MileSplit Network. Click here to see her interview with scrunners.com.

Ava led St. Joe’s to a fifth-place finish out of 10 teams. Caroline Linen finished sixth, and Brigid Alvis, Emily Meade and Karolina Montalvo were the other scorers for St. Joe’s.

The girls JV was runner-up out of seven teams. The scorers for the Knights were Skylar Lewis, (9th) Clare McKinley, Isabella Adams, Cailin Sullivan and Margaret Coburn.

The SJCS boys varsity came in fifth out of 11 teams. For the Knights, Brendan McTigue was 18th (17:41) and Tristan McTigue was 19th (17:42).

The boys JV was sixth out of nine teams. Morgan Fayssoux finished 25th for St. Joe’s.

Volleyball

The St. Joe’s volleyball team finished fifth overall and won the Silver Bracket championship in the Porter Gaud Invitational in Charleston this past weekend.

The Knights defeated Bishop England, James Island, Branchville and Pisgah (N.C.), and their only loss came against Class 5A River Bluff.
