Senior Rashad Luckey ran for three touchdowns, and the SJCS football team opened the season with a 26-8 victory on the road against Carolina High at David Farnham Stadium Friday night.

The Knights, who pulled away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, began the season with a win over Carolina for the second year in a row.

Rashad scored on a short run the first time the Knights had the ball, and they led 6-0 with with 3:16 left in the first quarter.

With 6:27 remaining in the first half, Rashad scored on a 12-yard run and sophomore Matthew Hall added the point-after kick to make it 13-0.

Carolina scored and added a two-point conversion to pull within 13-8 with 9:29 left in the game. But St. Joe’s scored on its next two possessions.

Sophomore K.D. Boyd broke free for 34 yards, setting up his 20-yard touchdown run. Then Rashad scored on a 20-yard run with 1:45 remaining. Matthew Hall kicked the extra point, and the Knights had a 26-8 lead.

School-wide tailgate

The Knights will play their first home game next Friday, August 30, at 7:30 PM against Ninety Six. All SJCS families & friends are invited to attend our Welcome Back Tailgate before the game from 5:30-7:00 PM on the softball field next to the gym.

SJCS parent leader groups will be providing FREE hot dogs (cooked by Mr. Kiser, Dr. Jones and Mrs. J), condiments, plates, flatware and napkins. There is no cost to attend, though we ask that you bring…. If your last name begins with:

A-C: Individual bags of chips
D-H: Dessert (no nuts, please)
I-Q: Side dish (fruit, salads, antipasto, veggies, etc.)
R-Z: Case of bottled water
