SPORTS ROUNDUP: GIRLS TENNIS TEAM DEFEATS ASHEVILLE

The SJCS varsity girls tennis team defeated visiting Asheville School 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Melina Norton (No. 1), Julia Jacques (No. 2) and Madison Patrick (No. 4) won singles matches for the Knights.

Also for St. Joe’s, Melina Norton and Julia Jacques were victorious at No. 1 doubles and Caroline Gallagher and Grace Eilers at No. 2 doubles.

The Knights play today at 4:30 at Southside Christian.

In the Furman preseason tournament Aug. 16-17, Melina Norton placed third at No. 1 singles; Adrianna Delacruz placed second at No. 3 singles; and Caroline Gallagher and Grace Eilers defeated the team from Riverside in the playoff for third place in the No. 1 doubles draw.

Girls golf

The St. Joseph’s girls golf team played a tri-match against Wren and Blue Ridge Wednesday at Chanticleer. The Knights (6-2) lost to the Hurricanes but beat Blue Ridge.

Emma Curran led the way for SJCS with a 45. Caleigh Noonan fired a 50, Marett Cole a 51 and Kaitlyn Dumit a 54. Illness prevented Reagan Lillibridge from participating.

The Knights next play Tuesday against Ware Shoals at The Preserve at Verdae.

Volleyball

The SJCS volleyball team, which opened Region 1-2A play Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over Brashier Middle College, will play at home tonight at 6:45 against Greenville Tech. The JV plays at 5:30.

Also today….

The SJCS middle school volleyball team plays at Bob Jones at 4:30 PM. The Knights’ JV football team plays at Ninety Six at 6:30 PM.
