Next week, May 13 -17, the SJCS Middle School Beta Club will be sponsoring a used book drive to help support the Greenville Literacy Association, one of the largest community-based adult literacy and education programs in South Carolina.

GLA has been in existence for more than 50 years and provides GED and ESL classes to adults who want to obtain their GED or learn to speak English. In addition, it provides services that help students transition into careers or higher education opportunities.

In order for GLA to provide these programs, it has several fundraisers each year. The largest fundraiser is the Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap book sale every August at McAllister Square, a three-day community event that raises more than $100,000 and has about 140,000 books for sale.

The GLA collects books all year long for the sale and we, the Middle School Beta Club at SJCS, are so excited to be holding a book drive on its behalf. Our drive will take place May 13-17 during MS morning and afternoon carline. Beta Club members will be outside during these times to collect your books. You don’t even have to get out of your car. Please look around your house for books that you can donate.
