V Boys Tennis Continues Undefeated Season
St. Joseph’s Varsity Boys Tennis have been a force to be reckoned with this season. With a perfect 6-0 record, the Knights have been dominant on the court, decisively defeating each regional powerhouse school, including two victories over the defending state champs CCES.
Tuesday, April 10, the Knights defeated Southside Christian 6-1. Coach Kevin Meyer says “There were some great matches with the top three seeds and it was a lot closer than the final score indicated. I think this will give us a home court advantage for the upper state playoffs.”
#1 Nick Loudermilk lost to T Pitts 6-3, 1-6, 9-11
#2 Brandon Hodge def M Pitts 7-6, 2-6, 10-8
#3 Maclean Armstrong def N Pitts 7-5, 6-4
#4 Matthew Jacques def S. Davis 6-2, 6-0
#5 Mack Self def L. Lui 6-1, 6-1
#1 Loudermilk/Hodge def Pitts/Pitts 8-1
#2 Patrick Reese/Collin Maides def SSC #2 6-0, 6-0
Loudermilk and Hodge went to tiebreakers and Armstrong was down 5-0 in the first set before reeling off 7 straight games.
This year’s renewed enthusiasm for Knights Boys Tennis led to the need for a JV team at the beginning of the season, thanks to the hard work of last year’s Varsity team and Coach Meyer. The JV team, coached by Ken Arp, has twelve players on the roster.
