Art Teacher Deborah Pickard Completes Local Mural

Last year on St. Joseph’s the Worker Day, Elaine Trakas’ Household volunteered at Rolling Green Village, a continuing care retirement community here in Greenville. The Marketing Director asked if the Art Teacher at SJCS could help with a mural she wanted painted, and art instructor Deborah Pickard willingly stood up! In June, she began working on a 210 feet by 8 feet mural on the back outside wall of their main building. On January 15th, it was finally completed!

“I drew the mural over the summer and began painting mid-October. My workers included my family, a few friends, several members of the National Art Honor Society, and Rolling Green residents,” Pickard said. “It became a place of healing, renewal, inspiration and joy for everyone involved and brings these things to the residents, their families and the staff.”

The finished product is truly spectacular and all are invited to a “Mural Open House” on Sunday, January 29 from 1-3 pm.

“Once again,” Pickard said, “being part of the St. Joseph’s family has brought me an opportunity I wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
